CAN YOU SAY... FOOOOD FIGHT!?

CAN YOU SAY... FOOOOD FIGHT!?

I love Amsterdam, it’s my city, it is beautiful, friendly, there is enough but not too much and it is ‘gezellig’. Usually there is a lot going on in the city to keep the 811k residents of the street. There are creative, food, or music festivals almost every week. But today something different happened. A food fight.

 Why?

There was actually a very good reason to throw food at each other. Russia currently has a boycott on European fruit and veggies, many Dutch farmers suffer from this and remain with their produce.

So instead of chucking it, someone decided it was better to chuck with it. Tomatofest was born.

Now you could do this in a park, or in an abandoned building, but the organizers decided to organize their Tomatofest on Dam Square, Amsterdam’s main square, in front of the royal palace.

DJs played some nice tunes, including of course the Ketchup Song, while 2000 participants eagerly awaited the 200.000 tomatoes to be unloaded onto the square. The tomatoes were al overripe and not suitable for consumers, so no unnecessary food waste.

The tomato fight began and Dam Square quickly turned into Red Square. It was fun, cold, slimy, crazy, brilliant and a bit dirty.  And I must say, a slimy tomato hug is the best kind.
