Bello Limoncello

It was only two years ago that Frank de Ruwe and Lard Breebaart (founders of Natwerk) discovered limoncello and decided to create their own version. Last year the two friends embarked on an Italianroad trip in search of the very best lemons to create a more masculine version, with more alcohol and less sugar. Last Thursday it was time for a next step; the launch of “Bello Mini,” a shot-sized bottle. Why? According to De Ruwe and Breebaart the bigger bottle didn’t fit in the fridge of their favorite (and tiny) bar De Dokter in the Rozenboomsteeg 4.

When we arrived at the launch party – with a very tight guest list due to the size of the bar – we dug straight in. Though the bottles proved a bit of a hassle to open, resulting in two broken fingernails, we were immediately hooked – the refill tap came in double-handy.

Unfortunately the drink is too strong to be sold in the supermarkets. De Ruwe: “That’s why we decided to expand our little alcohol imperium and are now going to revive lambrusco, the popular 80s drink.” Breebaart: “We remember this overly sweet drink from when we were teenagers. However, on our trip through Italy we discovered there are also excellent lambruscos. And of course we will give it an extra punch; again so that it will be appreciated by real men.” We made the partners of Natwerk promise to invite us to the lambrusco-launch, end of this year, cause we had a great time.
